Some users reported the logo looking off after the liquid glass updates.
"Ever since the Liquid Glass update for the iOS app, it has looked, to me, like the W in the app icon is slightly vertically off-center." Link here.
Another users described the icon as looking “dusty”, and the icon can sometimes look like “two Vs.”
Hi folks, we've heard back from Comms and legal:
In line with the legal visual requirements to keep the logomarks consistent, our recommendation not separated the W into two Vs. Current trends show that the Wikipedia brand is losing visibility. Because this Apple Glass treatment is quite obvious, it actually looks like a derivative of the W logomark. Keeping our marks consistent will help to build recognition.
In general, we are more concerned with ensuring consistency than adhering to a specific platform’s look and feel. Perhaps there is a way to treat the W in its totality as a semi-translucent layer that then floats on top of the background shape? If not, we recommend just keeping it flat and consistent with the treatment across other devices.
And to that end Derek has created two updated icons for us:
