This task is a set of pre- and post-launch items adapted from the team's Experiment Launch Checklist. Note we are launching the carousel as beta feature separate from the detail view in MMV which can follow. We also do not need product health metrics for this phase since it won't go to our logged-out reader audience.
2 weeks before launch (Week of 5/18)
- Code is feature-complete (only bugfix and instrumentation work after this week; avoid adding/removing message strings)
- Communicate launch date to affected wikis (note: this step is specific to giving the community an update on the expected launch timeline, not a substitute for early community consultation)
1 week before launch (week of 5/25)
- Bug bash tasks complete
- Backport beta feature config patch - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/operations/mediawiki-config/+/1293701:
- prod allowlist entry - roll out to testwiki and all Wikipedias
- config flags - $wgMediaViewerMobileCarousel = true; and $wgMediaViewerBetaFeature = true; on prod
