Add Speech data collector as a GitLab component
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

This could best be handled by adding a folder under Wikimedia GitLab /repos, similar to how Wikimedia France have structured theirs. A possible naming convention could be repos/WMSE or repos/wikimedia-sverige

There we could host our fork/clone of LinguaLibre. The name should be changed to something else or at least we should be able to rename it if we want to.

Event Timeline

There doesn't seem to be any convention for naming groups for chapters in the documentation. Also if you look at what the names are for existing chapter groups there are at least three different variants: wikimedia-ch, wmde and wikimedia-france.

I like either "wmse" (pros: short, no need to explain how to spell "Sverige" if you want to say the URL) or "wikimedia-sverige" (pros: it's our proper name, more clear for someone that don't know the abbreviations).

Pinging @Alicia_Fagerving_WMSE too since any future projects on Gitlab will live there, not just those that are part of Wikispeech.

You can rename a repo when you fork it (caller "Project slug"). You can also do it for an existing repo under Advanced -> "Change path". There are however some warnings:

  • Be careful. Renaming a project's repository can have unintended side effects.
  • You will need to update your local repositories to point to the new location.

For name I think "Speech data collector" (with some sensible casing) may be best. The old extension is called "WikispeechSpeechDataCollector", but I thinks that's a bit much. I think at least part of the reason for prefixing "Wikipseech" is that it lives in an extensions repo(?) with all the other extensions, so it made sense to make it clear that it was part of Wikispeech. If we put it in /repos/wmse/wikispeech there's less need for that.

@Viktoria_Hillerud_WMSE, thoughts?

Yes I think you're right, especially if it will live in a repo called /repos/wmse/wikispeech
