Adyen batches incorrect
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This last week we have seen some large discrepancies on the Adyen batches - notably

  • 1189 which has a large DepositCorrection Net Debit row
  • 1190 which has a slightly larger DepositCorrection Net credit row (difference is -3582.06)
  • 1191 which is ONLY a Deposit Correction - no transactions
  • 1192 also ONLY a deposit correction, no transactions

Looking at previous files we have seen deposit corrections in the past - but the last one was 2020-08-28 - so definitely infrequent

First step to figuring out how to handle these is to find out why they are happening - I emailed @RKumar_WMF in the hope she knows

I have reviewed the deposit debited from your Merchant Account WikimediaDonations. The reason you did not receive the full payout for batch 1189 is due to a Deposit Correction.

What is a Deposit Correction?
Deposit corrections are seen when funds are moved in and out of the deposit. This can happen due to the deposit threshold being increased or decreased based on the Merchant Potential Liability (MPL) tool.

How the MPL Tool Works:
The MPL tool runs daily to estimate Adyen’s financial exposure (potential chargebacks/refunds) based on your transaction history.

Threshold: If the total exposure exceeds the total coverage by more than EUR 10,000.00, the MPL tool automatically withholds funds from the settlement to cover the net exposure on the account.
More information: Learn about the deposit on your merchant account and how to manage it.
In your case:
Your required deposit previously was set at USD 288,000.00. Because the deposit was previously below this level, the system utilized Batches 1189 to reach the required amount.

Future Outlook:
This deposit is not a fee; it is your money held in reserve. The amount may fluctuate up or down depending on your live exposure and transaction volume. As your exposure decreases, these funds will be released back to your payable balance periodically.

A quick way to view these specific funds movements is to navigate to Finance → Balance overview, click on the Activity log tab, and then filter the Activity column to Deposit correction.

When reviewing the adjustments, please keep the following logic in mind:

A positive deposit correction represents a debit (funds taken from your balance).
A negative deposit correction represents a credit (funds returned back to you).

Note that this is 'mostly' resolved - we are still waiting on Finance to tell us how to code these Deposit Corrections

I'm moving this to DONE because the main work is done on it - we ARE waiting on some more information from Finance to correctly code in Intacct but I feel there are other places tracking that - I did ping @KHill-WMF to make sure it's tracked
