Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

For measuring collaboration, the indicator metric will be 'weekly participation rate' which is a combination of edit and non-edit actions.

While edits can be measured using mediawiki_history , in this task we will do a data discovery to understand if data is readily available for non-edit actions provided in this sheet by @ifried. note: of the actions listed on there we are focussing only on the high priority actions for this first iteration.
The non-edit action data will be used to determine the definition (median vs mean), baseline, target and long term tracking of this metric on the Contributors dashboard.

Definition of Done

I will provide @MNeisler with a notebook that includes how the non-edit actions data can be queried. She will use this to calculate weekly participation rate.

Event Timeline

Mayakp.wiki changed the task status from Open to In Progress.
Mayakp.wiki triaged this task as High priority.
Mayakp.wiki moved this task from Doing to Needs sign-off on the Movement-Insights (FY25-26 H2) board.

I shared the non-edit actions queries with Megan earlier this week (notebook) .
Looking at the data it seems like some of the non-edit actions will be included in the weekly edit rate since they are revisions. here's the new breakdown of edits and non-edits for the DE1.2 KR metric.

Weekly participation (or engagement) rate [name TBD] : Average edits+non-edit actions per user to any namespace in the past calendar week, whether reverted or not.

Edits will include

  • Main namespace Edits
  • Wikiproject edits
  • Talk page edits
    • Talk namespace + wikilove

Non-edit actions will include -

  • Thanks
  • Event creation
  • Event participation
