Special:GlobalContributions ignores translations of Wikimedia override messages
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

The follwing three messages are defined as empty messages:

  • checkuser-global-contributions-anon-tools
  • checkuser-global-contributions-ip-range-tools
  • checkuser-global-contributions-registered-user-tools

Overrides with wikimedia- prefix appear to be used instead, for overrides English source as well as translations appear to be available:

Special:GlobalContributions however displays only English message regardless of interface language:

I believe that's intended – the customization in https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Checkuser-global-contributions-registered-user-tools should be shown regardless of your language settings (otherwise users with non-English language settings wouldn't see valuable links)

I see, there are indeed also onwiki overrides, in addition to overrides from WikimediaMessages extension.

In this case what are translatable wikimedia- override messages for? Translations for these include the same valuable links, see link to /fr message page above.

So these onwiki overrides include hidden links for stewards. Shouldn't this customization be added in WikimediaMessages extension as well then? Or maybe do something like this onwiki:

{{int:wikimedia-checkuser-global-contributions-registered-user-tools}} <span class="stewardonly"...

so that existing translations weren't ignored?
