Cloud VPS wlmitvisual01: upgrade Debian bullseye -> trixie
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The Cloud VPS server wlmitvisual01 under the wlm-it-visual project is still running debian-11.0-bullseye, deprecated in 2022.
As recently announced ( T428196 ) we need to migrate it to Toolforge or to a new VPS with Debian Trixie:

Debian Bullseye will reach the end of its Long Term Support(LTS) on August 31, 2026.[1]
In order to keep our platforms secure we need to move to Debian Bookworm or Trixie.

As part of this migration, it may be worth evaluating whether your workload is a good fit for Toolforge.
If feasible, migrating to Toolforge can reduce future maintenance burden, as operating system upgrades are handled by the platform.

All affected instances in the project needs to be upgraded by July 31st, 2026.
After July 31st, instances that remain on Bullseye may be subject to deprecation or cleanup efforts starting August 1st, 2026.

Event Timeline

Thank you for alert.
Now checking with WMI board the approach to take.
We will be shortly back.

Following discussion with WMI boarding, we are now planning to move the application now running on wlm-it-visual to wlm-app + wlm-job. Once we are ok with the result of the moving, we will erase wlm-it-visual.
We expect to complete the operation by mid-july.
Keep you posted.

A quick update: we have completed the logical moving of application and data from old server to the new servers.

I have now paused wlmitvisual01, just in case we realized we missed something during the moving (but I don't think it will ever happen).

Anyway on July 30th, I'm going to definitely erase wlmitvisual01

I've just erased wlmitvisual01
