Request: Improve user feedback and navigation on Special:RegisterForEvent
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

No confirmation message when registration settings are saved without changes at Special:RegisterForEvent/xyz

When an event is registered through a direct registration link, the system displays the following message:

"Your registration information was updated."

However, when a user opens the registration link again and clicks Save after reviewing the registration visibility setting (Private/Public):

  • If the user changes the setting and saves, the message "Your registration information was updated." is displayed.
  • If the user clicks Save without making any changes, no message is displayed.

This can be confusing for users because there is no indication that their action was processed successfully.

Suggested Improvement
  • Display a confirmation message whenever the Save button is clicked, even if no changes were made.
  • Alternatively, display a message such as:
    • "No changes were made to your registration settings."
    • "Registration settings saved successfully."

  • Display a confirmation message whenever the Save button is clicked, even if no changes were made.
  • Alternatively, display a message such as: [...]

This requires product/design input on the preferred UX (as to what message to show), but it's otherwise a trivial change with a TODO comment already present in the source:

		if ( $this->modifiedData === false ) {
			// No change to the previous data, don't show a success message.
			// TODO We might want to explicitly inform the user that nothing changed.
			return;
		}

Additional Suggestion

After saving the registration settings, there is currently no link or button to return to the event page.

  • Add a "Back to Event" link or button after the save action.
  • This would improve navigation and provide a better user experience for participants.

This is already tracked separately in T379685: Add 'Back to event page' link on Special:RegisterForEvent, so I'll remove it from here.
