ULSv2 post-deployment polish and stabilization
Open, HighPublic

Description

What needs to be prioritized:
After the ULS deployment has had time to run in production, we should review the issues, feedback, regressions, and usability concerns that have been reported or observed. The goal is to look at the product with fresh eyes after real usage, prioritize the most important follow-up fixes, and complete a bounded set of polish, stabilization, and cleanup work.

The exact tasks are not known yet. This initiative should focus on issues that materially affect user experience, product quality, maintainability, or confidence in leaving ULS in maintenance mode.

If not already completed earlier, this work should also include removing code, configuration, feature flags, compatibility paths, or other implementation pieces that are no longer needed after deployment.

Work is completed when post-deployment feedback has been reviewed, the most important follow-up issues have been prioritized, selected fixes and cleanup tasks have been completed, any remaining issues have been explicitly deferred so that LPL Projects (ULS rewrite) has no open tasks and is archived.

Why this is essential:
For a user-facing product like ULS, some issues only become clear after real usage, broader exposure, and a short period of operational observation. Reserving time for post-deployment polish helps ensure that we do not leave behind avoidable quality issues immediately after launch.

What happens if we do not do it now:
If we do not reserve time for this work, post-deployment issues may remain scattered, under-prioritized, or unresolved as the team moves on. Smaller quality issues can accumulate into user frustration, reduced confidence in the deployment, and a harder maintenance burden later.

We risk leaving ULS in a state where it is technically deployed, but not yet polished, stable, or clean enough for the team to be comfortable treating it as maintenance-only work.

Dependencies / constraints:

  • Enough time must pass after deployment to collect meaningful feedback and observe real usage.
  • The team needs agreement on which issues are important enough to address before moving focus elsewhere.
