Fix slow performance when viewing WikiData item details
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

When navigating to an item <url/Q12345>, performance is very slow.
I expect this is related to the WikiData python library being used at the moment.

Slow performance confirmed to be traced to FluentWikiBaseClient.get_item().
See "client.get_item() in list_authority_control_data().

This might be tricky to sort out. Since we're using the FluentClient - it is currently parsing every single statment/property in the API's response, and converting it all into usable objects.

I suspect this large amount of processing overhead is probably causing the slowdown.

If we could limit the API request and say, "Only show me property/statement X, Y, and Z on the Item" instead of returning everything, I suspect performance would improve.

There don't appear to be any options in the current Python library to do this. https://pypi.org/project/wikibase-rest-api-client/

It may or may not be possible to improve performance if I decide to call the api manually rather than using this library.
