Make certain essential tasks repeatable
Open, HighPublic4 Estimated Story Points

Description

Description

Some essential tasks are not one time actions. Editors should be able to complete them multiple times as their wiki grows. This task introduces repeatable behavior for four tasks in the Essential Tasks dashboard.

Affected tasks

Proposed changes

  • On the task card, once a task has been completed at least once, the "Start task" button is replaced with "Repeat task."
  • Each task card shows a per-task run count in the bottom right corner (e.g. "↻ 2 runs").
  • The Essential Tasks card header shows a total run count across all repeatable & non-repeatable tasks in the top right corner (e.g. "↻ 7 runs total").
  • The 1/6 completed counter in the status bar counts unique task completions only. Repeat runs do not increment it.
  • The task flow (intro, steps, completion screen) is unchanged.

Thanks for a first version on this task Srishti. There might be an opportunity to tweak the wording "repeat task" as it may lean towards repetition rather than progress. No better alternatives for now, but something to think through

Sure, i think we can try that and if we find better alternatives we can adjust then. We can also consider having the task less busy for example we may not need the green check and the green colour as we already have "runs" as a count.

@srishakatux to unblock this task to make progress, any thoughts on the comments above on making the design less busy?

I think the green background gives users a sense of completion after they've finished the task even once. So I'm inclined to keep it for now.

@srishakatux @MaryMunyoki regarding the infobox task we haven't implemented the last step ("Add infobox to articles"). The reason for that is that there is no known way -at least to us- to find good candidate articles for each infobox type. Suggesting random articles would be a bad idea in my opinion. If there is any meaningful workaround that you can think of, I'd be happy to discuss. Otherwise, I would suggest removing that essential task from the list of essential tasks in the description.

not directly related but I recall the hotcat task has an approach to find articles, anything to borrow from the approach there, or any other thoughts at all on the approach for this task @srishakatux ?

We can drop import infobox task from the task description here for now and continue discussing possible approaches for adding the last step here: T432929.
