Autogen or autosync Growth/Deployment table from the canonical deployment data
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Please automatically generate or synchronize the mw:Growth/Deployment table from the canonical deployment data.

I'm not sure if the Wikidata sitelinks at d:Q14339834 (Wikipedia:Growth Team features/Mentor list) are the source of truth for Wikipedias with mentorship enabled, or there's some other deployment config that is perhaps feeding the sitelinks, but whatever the case the mw:Growth/Deployment_table is grossly out of date. I have already given out incorrect information because of it. I was about to blank the page and turn it into a soft 404 to d:Q14339834, but it occurred to me that Wikidata might not have the correct data either. (But a blank Deployment table would still be better than wrong info.)

Please figure out what one source you want to contain the official on-wiki source of deployment info, and then sync that automatically to whatever internal config holds the actual list. Every other on-wiki source should identify itself as derivative, and link to one on-wiki source with sync'ed data.

Thanks for highlighting this. We recently worked on a ticket that required us listing all wikis that GrowthExperiments was deployed at so making an update to the page should be doable.

@Mathglot, what is your need here?

The deployment table is up to date, on my records. Is there anything you find missing?

Which incorrect information have you given out? Is it related to the Egyptian Arabic mentorship discussion?
Remember that mentorship is deployed at all Wikipedias, Wikidata and one Wiktionary. It is not activated everywhere.

So Growth/Deployment table isn't about where Growth mentorship is deployed, so soft-redirecting it to Q14339834 would not be relevant. But I agree that we should have a way to find where mentorship is activated, as not all wikis created a project page. Is this task about listing these active wikis?

Meanwhile, I edited the Deployment page to highlight the fact that mentorship must be activated beforehand, as it was too implicit.

The deployment table lists 15 entries, but Wikidata lists 41. from what you were saying it sounds like the difference is due to the difference between the definitions of deployed and active, and relating those terms to wikis where new users are assigned mentors and where they are not.

So maybe we could start by making sure the deployment table defines those terms, and explains what it is that the sitelinks at wikidata are listing.

The section "Features deployed by default" above the deployment table lists the wikis where the features are deployed by default: all Wikipedias, French Wiktionary and Wikidata have access to mentorship. Up to them to configure it locally and activate it. The table is for features that are not default features everywhere.

On Wikidata are listed pages that are about Growth mentorship (in theory, as I removed a few false positive in the past). They could reflect wikis where mentorship is activated, but also the ones that have the intent of activating it. Wikis that have activated mentorship but only rely on Special:ManageMentors are not listed on Wikidata.

We could query the number of active mentorship, but it would be a snapshot. We are looking for an easy solution to create a dynamic list of all wikis where mentorship is active (matching both conditions: activated in Community Configuration and having at least one mentor signed-up).

Meanwhile, we can't spend time updating the deployment page with every single wiki that has mentorship up. I'll still rely on visiting Special:ManageMentors when I need to find if a wiki has mentorship in proper order.
