I would like to request that the prospective domain for a Filipino Wikipedia (fil.wikipedia.org) be redirected to the domain of the Tagalog Wikipedia (tl.wikipedia.org).

It is the long-standing consensus of the Tagalog Wikipedia community that Tagalog and Filipino are the same language, and the Language committee has even shot down attempts at establishing a separate Filipino Wikipedia owing to the similarity between the two languages. In the language selector, searching for "Filipino" or "fil" returns Tagalog as a search result. As such, it makes sense for the prospective Filipino Wikipedia's domain name to be redirected to the Tagalog Wikipedia's domain.

The Language committee has been informed of this proposal and I have also informed the Tagalog Wikipedia village pump, but for reference here are the relevant pages pointing out this reality in support of redirecting fil.wikipedia.org to tl.wikipedia.org

• 2005 Tagalog Wikipedia discussion on "translating" the project's content into Filipino, which was massively opposed by the community
• 2007 proposal for a Filipino Wikipedia, which was also opposed by the community and ultimately rejected
• Tagalog Wikipedia policies on translation and standard language, both of which reinforce the existing consensus. For example, in the translation policy, it states "You may use a dictionary written in Tagalog, Pilipino and Filipino." (Maaring gumamit ng diksiyonaryong nasa Tagalog, Pilipino, at Filipino.)
