Feature summary

Commons has many aerial images, where the coordinates of each corner are (or can be) known. For example, [[:File:Aerial Photo - RAF 541 15 RP 3024.png]].

• Given such an image, the tool should query Wikidata for objects within those coordinates.
  • Some sensible limit for the size of field should be applied
  • Use the date of the image to exclude things destroyed before or created after that date
• For each object found, ask the user "can you see this object in the photo?"
• If yes, add a Property:P180 "depicts" statement in SDC (see the above file for examples)
• Give the user the option to draw a rectangle around the object, and add Property:P2677 values (again, see the above file for examples)

The tool could also work on Wikidata items about such images.

I have hundreds of such aerial images (and Commons has thousands), and need to say what they depict. Finding items manually is slow; adding them is also time consuming.

Significant savings in time; increased motivation for editors to add useful metadata.
