Automatically add uploaded video to Wikidata (P10)
Open, Needs TriagePublicFeature

Description

Feature summary

Allow contributors to optionally add the uploaded Commons video as a P10 (video) statement on a Wikidata item immediately after a successful upload in Clip2Commons.

Use case(s)

Many videos uploaded through Clip2Commons are intended to illustrate an existing Wikidata item.

Currently, contributors must:

  1. Upload the video to Wikimedia Commons using Clip2Commons.
  2. Open the corresponding Wikidata item in a separate tab.
  3. Edit the item manually.
  4. Add a P10 (video) statement pointing to the uploaded Commons file.
  5. Save the changes.

This additional workflow is repetitive and increases the likelihood that uploaded videos are never linked to their corresponding Wikidata items.

Benefits

  • Reduces manual post-upload work for contributors.
  • Encourages better integration between Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
  • Improves discoverability and reuse of uploaded videos through structured data.
  • Simplifies the contribution workflow, especially for new contributors.
  • Helps ensure uploaded media is associated with the appropriate Wikidata item from the start.
