Feature summary
Allow contributors to optionally add additional Structured Data on Commons (SDC) statements while uploading a file through Clip2Commons, instead of requiring them to edit the file page after the upload is complete.
Examples of supported statements could include:
Use case(s)
Currently, Clip2Commons allows contributors to upload media and provide basic metadata, but additional Structured Data on Commons statements must be added separately after the upload.
A typical workflow is:
- Upload a file using Clip2Commons.
- Wait for the upload to complete.
- Open the uploaded file page on Wikimedia Commons.
- Open the Structured Data editor.
- Manually add statements such as the creator, inception date, source, or location.
- Save the changes.
This extra workflow is repetitive, time-consuming, and often results in files being uploaded without complete structured metadata.
Benefits
- Encourages contributors to provide richer structured metadata during upload.
- Improves the quality and completeness of Structured Data on Commons.
- Reduces the need for manual post-upload edits.
- Makes uploaded media easier to discover, query, and reuse across Wikimedia projects.
- Streamlines the upload workflow for both new and experienced contributors.
''Note:'' This feature should build upon any existing Structured Data workflow (such as depicts support) rather than duplicating metadata entry.
