Motivation

We want to encourage more users who provide an email address during account creation to confirm it.

For this experiment, we are specifically targeting new users who create an account through desktop or mobile web and provide an email address during account creation.

This ticket covers upfront enforcement, where users must confirm the provided email address before they can log in to the new account.

Specs

Apply upfront enforcement to eligible users assigned to this experiment group.

After the user submits the account-creation form:

• The account is created.
• A confirmation email is sent to the provided address.
• The user is not logged in.
• The user is shown a message explaining that they must confirm their email address before they can log in.
• The user is presented with the option to change or resend the email.

If the user attempts to log in before confirming:

• The login is blocked.
• The user is informed that email confirmation is required before they can access the account.
• The user is provided with an option to resend the confirmation email.

After the user confirms the email address, they can log in and use the account normally.
