User Story

• As a user
• I want to be reminded to donate to Wikipedia after I have read the number of articles I set up
• And I want Wikipedia to remember the donation amount I pre-selected when I set up my reminder
• So that I can make my donation at a time that is convenient for me, with preselected donation amount to keep the ask simple and straughtforward for me to complete

Background

Our donation banners and emails often serve as “reminders” to donate for our readers, but there are currently limited opportunities for readers to customize when and how they are reminded to donate. Because the apps locally store and surface the user's reading history, we have a unique strength that allows us to experiment with a customizable donation reminder, tied to reading habits. We hope to learn whether app users are more likely to engage with a reminder that is based on the number of articles they have read, over a reminder that is based on timing. We also hope to learn how many app users go on to donate following their donation reminder, and whether the article approach sees more recurring donations than our previous banner approaches.

Requirements

*NB: If a user does not interact with the module, the original one overrides the ‘you’ve read another x articles’ even if they have read another X-articles, because they didn't interact with it.

• When a user has reached the point at which we should remind them (based on how many articles they chose to have read prior to being reminded), we will feature an in-page module on an article that a user is able to scroll past and does not overlay the article page in the same way the banner does
• The in-page module will feature the copy heading: eg. "You've read X-articles since you pledged X-amount" (see spreadsheet for copy)
• The logic for the number of articles and the donation amount referred to in this message should be based on what the user set up in their donation reminder form.
• Underneath the heading the in-page module copy will read, for example: "On X-date you asked us to remind you to donate after reading X articles. If Wikipedia has provided you with €X-amount of knowledge, please join the 2% of readers who give and complete your pledge today." (See spreadsheet for copy)
• The in-page module will feature one button: Eg. "Yes, donate now" and one text link, eg.: "Not now"
• If a user selects the "Donate" button we’ll take them to our donation payment screen flow
• If a user selects the "Not now" text link, we will remove the in-page module from their article screen
• If a user selects "Not now" we will provide the user with a toast message saying, for example: 'Donation reminders can be changed in Settings' (see spreadhseet for copy)
• The reminder will reset - meaning the user will be reminded again after they have read another X-articles (based on the reminder they have set up)

There is also a new follow-up payment sheet that iOS needs to build to match Android. Then I think those buttons will take them to the existing iOS donation payment screens (native or web).
