Description

Background

The Reading List page's "Show more" button is vague and does not clearly describe purpose which is in violation of WCAG SC 2.4.6 AA

User story

As a user of AT I want to understand clearly what a button does when it's text gets read. "Show more" does not tell me what the more is that I will be shown.

Requirements

  • The "Show more" button string is updated to "Show more items"

Acceptance criteria for done

  • A screen reader or AT clearly reads out "Show more items, button"

  • after addding pages to Special:ReadingLists, "Show more items" should be displayed
  • check on desktop and mobile
  • check in dark mode
  • run accessibility check, including VoiceOver check
  • check for translation

This should be low risk but we can roll back if needed.

I'd strongly suggest to revisit the visible label and change this to "show more items". It would be a general usability win and let us go with lower engineered solution. cc: @Sneha

"Show more items" would already better in description. From the WCAG success criterion:

Descriptive headings are especially helpful for users who have disabilities that make reading slow and for people with limited short-term memory. > These people benefit when section titles make it possible to predict what each section contains.

Form input controls with labels that clearly and accurately describe the content that is expected to be entered helps users know how to successfully complete the form.
