The WDQS docs on mediawiki.org and wikidata.org have some duplicated content about federated queries and endpoints, which is making it a bit confusing to navigate. Below is a brief summary of my ideas for how to combine them:
- (keep this section but update it after cleanup work is done) Wikidata:SPARQL_query_service#Federated_queries This section currently links to several different pages. After this task is complete, this section should be able to link to just Wikidata:SPARQL_query_service/Federated_queries, the main page about federated queries. All the other links currently in this section should be linked to from within Wikidata:SPARQL_query_service/Federated_queries.
- (keep this page as the main page for the topic) Main federation overview page, with how to and examples: Wikidata:SPARQL_query_service/Federated_queries
- (keep this page as-is) Report of endpoint functionality : Wikidata:SPARQL_query_service/Federation_report
- (move or delete section content) mw.org User Manual section on federation Verify that the information in this section is covered by Wikidata:SPARQL_query_service/Federated_queries or one of the other wikidata.org pages listed above. After verifying that the information is covered, remove this section from the mediawiki.org page.
- (deprecate) mw:Wikidata_Query_Service/User_Manual/SPARQL_Federation_endpoints - Mark this page as {{historical}}. Since it's a manually duplicated version of the config in Gerrit, and Wikidata:SPARQL_query_service/Federated_queries/Allowlist is a more authoritative source for this topic, we shouldn't manually maintain additional data on this page separate from those other pages.
If the above changes are made, then all the information about query federation in WDQS would be on wikidata.org, with all related content moved off of mediawiki.org.
Note that information about federation strategies within the Wikibase software is out of scope for this task, so the following pages should remain on mw.org:
