Kartographer marker server should support "two-letter-icon" instead of forcing single-letter-icon only
Open, Needs TriagePublicFeature

Description

Feature summary:

Kartographer marker server should support "two-letter-icon" instead of forcing single-letter-icon only.

Currently, Kartographer Wikimedia markers only provide single-letter for letter icons.

However, the two-letters are also frequently used in many places' online/physical maps.

We should allow the letters to counted from single-letter to two-letter like Excel did: A, B, C, ..., X, Y, Z, AA, AB, AC, ... ZX, ZY, ZZ.

Event Timeline

This is essentially the same as T141335: Add maps support for marks with 3 digits. It might make sense to merge the two tickets.

While I understand both requests, they are very unlikely to happen. Several teams already looked into this. While there are probably technical ways to make this happen, it won't work well for various reasons. The biggest problem is that the text on the markers becomes to small and unreadable.

My assumption was if we can do two-digit numbers and they are identifiable enough, why it is not possible with two-letter with the same font size?

But I somewhat agree that three-letter/three-digit would make the font size too small.
