Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

The issue was previously brought up at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)/Archive_232#Links_not_changing_color_when_they_have_special_characters this thread. I was advised to file a report here after that thread was archived.

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Log out of Wikipedia account
  • Click on a wiki link with a special character in the name

What happens?:
The link remains blue if you return to the previous page.

What should have happened instead?:
It should have turned purple.

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):

The issue occurs in the Safari browser on both mobile and desktop. For desktop at least, the version is Version 26.6.2 (21624.5.1.11.3).

This issue doesn't happen if you are logged into your wikimedia account,

Thanks for reporting this. Please provide a specific example / link that allows others to reproduce the problem.

An example is to go to the Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pokémon) for Pokémon while logged out an clicking on one of the other works linked on the page with "Pokémon" in the title.

Aklapper renamed this task from Wikilinks not changing color when they have special characters and the user is signed out of Wiki account to Visited wiki links do not change color from blue to violet when they have special characters and user is logged out.Mon, Sep 7, 4:55 PM

My task was merged but is not exactly the same. Being logged out is not a condition for this bug.

Now there's an issue where pages with dashes in the title also don't turn to purple. An example is [[Viacom (1952–2005)]].
