Description

Update: new interviews coming up first week of October. Ifeatu to share new questions with Clive

Interviews happened on September 3rd

Questions were the following:
Filtering on Recent Changes & Watchlist pages (10min)
• Are you aware of the Recent Changes or the Watchlist pages?
--> IF YES: Do you actively use them? What do you use them for as an editor? How often do you visit/use them? What kind of changes can you see there? (Wait if Wikidata is mentioned)
--> IF NO: Can you imagine what these pages are for and how they might differ from each other?

• Is there another place or page on Wikipedia that you visit to find out more about changes that impact your content?

• Are you familiar with the filters in the RecentChanges or Watchlist pages?
--> IF YES: What do filters help you accomplish? Why do you use them?
--> Please share your screen with us again and walk us through the way you work with filters on the Recent Changes or Watchlist page. Please think out loud again.
--> IF NO: What do you think filters help you accomplish? Why would you use them?
Please share your screen with us again and try to add some filters on the Recent Changes or Watchlist page. Please think out loud again.

• How often do you use those filters when you’re on pages such as RecentChanges or Watchlist? Do you use any gadgets/use plugins for those e.g. RTRC (Real Time Recent Changes)? ttps://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Krinkle/Tools/Real-Time_Recent_Changes

• Is there anything you like about the filters /anything you don’t like?

• Do you filter out changes made by bots or that are not interesting for you?
--> IF YES: How do you do it? Which type of changes are not interesting for you? When new filters are added, would you expect to learn about them?
• IF YES: How would you expect this to happen? Look out for Wikidata in the filters, or changes in the Log as indicator of Wikidata usage

• Are those the only places where you can filter a list of changes? Any wishes /best practices from other projects or sites regarding filters? Anything related to filters you’d like to add?

Setup: if time allows for it, 10min of each interview would be dedicated to it

Summary: in progress (not taken care of by Vi)

Event Timeline

I have shared some questions with Clive for next week's interview. They are:

Hypothesis

If we remove the language link logs which make up to 80% in the recent changes and watchlist notifications in some wikis, editors who have wikidata changes turned on or who turn it on in queries on the RC pages will experience less fatigue in their workflows.

  1. How do you interact with the language link logs, in your recent changes of watchlist pages?
  2. Is it important for you to know when a new language version has been added or removed to an article you are watching or to an article in your local wiki?
  3. Do you ever create these interlanguage links yourself? If yes, tell us about it. If no, why not?
  4. Are you a user with extended rights, e.g. a patroller or admin

@Virginie.caplet: update on the new questions that Clive has + document where they are listed (internal document)
