Description

As part of World of Wikipedia attribution exploration (T437867), we want to find ways to encourage player curiosity to learn more about the articles in the cards.

Currently the game provides an option to "Open article", but there are no further elements providing a reason to do so. This ticket proposes to surface relevant content from the article to make them more visible in World of Wikipedia. These elements could include:

  • Questions that get answered in the article.
  • Section titles for unusual aspects about the topic.
  • Relevant/curious facts.
  • Representing the article as an entity separate from the card (e.g. listed below in a "learn more" area).
  • or other aspects that invite curious users to jump into the article.

One thing we could do here to the actions to be a little more explicit as to what "Open article" even means is add in icons for each button, share for the "Share" button and the W logo icon for the other. Additionally, we could change the CTA here from "Open article" to "Open on Wikipedia".

Those changes make perfect sense as an immediate intervention. The goal of this ticket is also a bit more exploratory: which relevant content can be brought to World of Wiki in order to encourage curious players to access the article to learn more? (and how to show it to them?)

I created a specific ticket focused on @DTorsani-WMF proposal: T438495: Make access to articles more prominent on World of Wikipedia.
So we can keep the current one low priority (for future explorations) and focus on the most immediate intervention from T438495.
