On the English Wiktionary, look at an entry that has <ref>ref-tagged</ref> references, like typhoon (Internet Archive link of how it looks right now). The references are numbered (as expected) where they appear in the text of the entry:
[...] since at least the 1550s,[1][2] referring to Ancient Greek τυφῶν (tuphôn),[1] τυφώς (tuphṓs, “whirlwind”) (the latter attested since Aeschylus),[3] [...]
but in the References section, no matter whether it uses <references/> or {{reflist}}, the references lack their numbers:
. ^ Liddell and Scott
. ^ “typhon”, in Trésor de la langue française informatisé
[etc]
What should have happened instead?:
There should be reference numbers, like there were a few days ago, when it looked like this:
- ^ Liddell and Scott
- ^ “typhon”, in Trésor de la langue française informatisé
[etc]
In the French Wiktionary, the numbers are currently still appearing as expected: fr:alphabet. There is speculation here that this is connected to changes to the global site CSS to accommodate for the new parser (Parsoid), so I tagged that project; please revise the tags if needed.
