User Story
- As an iOS app user who has decided to set up a Discover recommended reading list, and chosen to base the list on specific ‘Interests’
- I want the ability to select a number of interests
- So that my reading list recommendations will always reflect the content I am most interested in
Where in the flow: Straight after the Discover user onboarding screen (where the user chooses how their recommended reading list is built, between Button 1: ‘Let me choose based on my interests’ and Button 2: ‘Choose for me based on my reading history’) - ONLY if the user has chosen Button 1: ‘Let me choose based on my interests’.
Acceptance criteria
- The screen should feature a title: ‘What are you interested in?’ at the top
- Underneath the title we will feature a search bar which is left blank for the user to type an interest in, with suggestion copy ‘Search for an article’ inside the search bar with a search icon to the left of the text
- When a user taps on the search bar, the user’s device keyboard should become active so that they can type in the name of an article/topic they are interested in
- TBD if tapping on ‘Search for an article’ has to take the user to a separate ‘search’ screen, or if the search could take place on the current screen for iOS
- When a user types in a given search term (eg. ‘Artificial Intelligence’) they will see a list of all relevant articles related to this search term. When they tap on the article title/image, this is added to the ‘Interests’ screen, with a visual indication that the article has now been selected.
- Underneath the search bar, the screen will feature a number of suggested articles that the user can tap on to form part of their selected ‘Interests’ (on Android they feature 13 example articles on the ‘Interests’ screen)
- Each suggested article should feature an image (where one is available for the given article), the article title (eg. ‘Indian subcontinent’) and where available the article’s description (eg. for the Indian subcontinent article, the would read ‘Physiographical region in South Asia’)
- We will feature an indicator at the bottom of the screen which makes a user aware of how many interests they have currently selected. This should read as a number with text, eg. ‘1 selected’ if they have only selected one article.
- Once a user has selected an article / multiple articles as their interest, they should be able to tap on the forward arrow at the bottom of the screen to complete their discover reading list onboarding set up
- If the user selects the back arrow <- at the top of this screen, they will be taken back to the previous screen (the user onboarding screen with the two options: ‘Let me choose based on my interests’ and ‘Choose for me based on my reading history’)
Notes and open questions
TBD with Engineers if it makes sense to split this story into two?
Out of scope
We received feedback from users and colleagues that featuring a set of ‘Topics’ within the interests section might be simpler and easier for users than selecting individual articles - TBD if this easy to implement then we could potentially include topics, but the current plan is to create the feature as is on Android, before making any further potential optimizations
