User Story

• As an iOS app user
• I want to receive a notification from Wikipedia to let me know when a new Discover reading list had been created for me
• So that I can be reminded easily and jump straight into the list to start reading

Where in the flow: Directly after the user has set up their Discover recommended reading list (either via selecting ‘Interests’ to create it, or by selecting the ‘Choose for me based on my reading history’ option)

Acceptance criteria

• When a user has set their preference for their reading list recommendation, and taps to the next screen, we will pop up a screen overlay prompt asking the user if they’d like to opt in to receiving notifications from us
• The screen will feature the copy: ‘Allow Wikipedia to send you notifications?’ alongside the native notifications icon (which is a bell, for Android)
• Underneath the question, we will feature two button options - ‘Allow’ and ‘Don’t allow’
• If the user selects ‘Allow’ they will be opted in to receiving the Discover reading list notifications, which will be sent weekly unless the user changes their preference to a different frequency
• After selecting ‘Allow’, the pop-up screen will be dismissed and the user will be taken to their ‘Discover’ screen with their first set of recommended articles
• If the user selects ‘Don’t allow’ we do not opt the user in to receiving a notification related to discover reading list
• After selecting ‘Don’t allow’ the pop-up screen will be dismissed and the user will be taken to their ‘Discover’ screen with their first set of recommended articles

Notes and open questions

• TBD if we decide to create a soft prompt before the native OS notifications prompt which explains more about the notification the user will receive and when
• TBD if this screen opts people in to all notifications that Wikipedia sends out - editing notifications, which came first game notifications, discover reading list notifications (ideally we should only opt people in to something they explicitly requested) - Abi to check with Android engineers on how they have set this up currently
