"Edit Profile Picture" triggers 504 error

Description

When I try to "Edit Profile Picture" on my Phab user homepage, I end up with a "504 Gateway Time-out | nginx/1.1.19" in both FF32 and Chrome37.

Unsure what's the underlying issue (setting avatar files on a not yet set up phab.wmfusercontent.org server? Some other SNI/nginx/etc fun?).

Is this perhaps related to T373?

I can't see what's actually happening because the error is masked by nginx and I don't have access to production to poke at the logs.
