When I tried to use the username I registered in wikitech.wikimedia.org (Ash_Crow), it didn't work and I had to replace the underscore with a space to be able to login on Gerrit.

AFAIK MediaWiki doesn't support underscores in usernames. It converts them to spaces.
You can use either in MW, it should be transparent.
Reopening so I remember to look at this.
I wonder where it would be more interesting to handle underscores.
At LDAP level, with a patch there? In a LDAP middlware acting as proxy to only replace _ by spaces? In each or a selection of apps?
It shows here https://github.com/gerrit-review/gerrit/blob/49df12cb7da00f9298d8a37e231d55ecc83fa0c5/gerrit-httpd/src/main/java/com/google/gerrit/httpd/auth/ldap/LdapLoginServlet.java#L109 it trims the username.
@demon could that be the cause of the problem here?
No.
And I'm actually not convinced to actually fix this. Nothing else using LDAP in our ecosystem does it.
Just go ahead and abandon that.
