Allow contributors to choose topics of interest for filtering displayed "weak" articles
Closed, DeclinedPublicFeature

Description

Author: suvim12199

Description:
After a user has logged-in , the Special:GettingStarted page shows suggestion for different options of editing. But the article showed in the list after that are almost randomly chosen 'weak' articles for improvement.

My suggestion is to have an option in user preference to chose contributors topics of interest and then get 'weak' articles from that topics, this would help contributors edit better and faster.

Since this system is currently geared toward users who just registered, we intentionally suggest weak articles that are easy to edit. It is also difficult to suggest topics of interest to people who just registered, since we don't know what they're interested in.

In the future, we may adapt GettingStarted to be more appropriate for recommending tasks to editors who have expressed some interests (either by editing pages or filling in a form, for example).

MediaWiki-extensions-GettingStarted has been removed from Wikimedia wikis and is getting archived per T292654. Thus declining this task to reflect reality.

See e.g. GrowthExperiments-NewcomerTasks or #GuidedTour instead nowadays for related use cases.
