It was showing excerpts last night

I'm fairly sure there's a bug in the RSS extension where it occasionally outputs (and caches) excerpts.

Base merged a task: T109446: RSS: xml mnemonics should be decoded when rendering.Aug 19 2015, 1:18 PM

Base added subscribers: Aklapper, Matanya, Base.

I think the more specific T119875 nails it, please reopen if you see issues with fields other than <description>.
