Many Difficulties in Mobile Display of Hebrew WIkisource
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: yesod22

Description:
a number of needed changes to the design page of the hebrew wikisource when viewed from a cellphone (atlteast from my iphone).

no need for a button for adding a picture (never used). more useful i think to have a link to the Talk page of the respective page.

on hebrew wikisource we have a template for caclulating the numeric value of a string of characters. it's called {{תב|גמט}}

The problem is that it doesn't work on the normal viewing of the page from a mobile phone. IT DOES however work when viewing the "Preview Page" option from a mobile phone. can this be fixed so that it works always?

Thanks for reporting this.
Just to clarify, this is about the Wikimedia App and not about using your browser and going to the mobile version of he.wikisource.org ?

That's not a difficulty by definition, but a design/change request (plus a different issue from what's reported below) :)

Can you please provide exact steps to reproduce the problem? Also see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug for more information. Thanks in advance!

I'm almost certain this isn't about the app, as you can't access anything other than Wikipedias using it.

The page actions for mobile can be customized with the config variable $wgMFPageActions, to disable upload icon with this value:
array( 'edit', 'talk', 'watch' );

But like Andre said: That isn't the right place here :D

I'm sorry. I reallly don't have the computer know-how to really understand your comments :-(. I just know that viewing wikisource on my iphone is an uncomfortable experience...

so just the gist of it... are you awaiting some further info on my part in order to improve things or is the conclusion that it's not relevant to bugzilla?

blessings, daniel

If you mean my comment:
The first thing (disable upload button) is a setting in the wikis configuration, so it's possible already -> no bug for Mobile Frontned, idk how the process is to enable/disable/change a setting, sorry :/

And to second: please read the link Andre Klapper posted, he (and me too) are unsure, what exactly you mean. Maybe you can give an exact example and say, what exactly you do.

k great. let's just focus on the second issue then.

  1. go the page of the template using a regular computer. https://he.wikisource.org/wiki/%D7%AA%D7%91%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%AA:%D7%92%D7%9E%D7%98

see how if you move your mouse over the sample text it renders a numeric value.

  1. go the page above using an iphone. see how if you move your mouse over the sample text no numeric value appears.

i don't see a way to be clearer than this.

Daniel: "go the page above using an iphone. see how if you move your mouse over the sample text no numeric value appears." Not sure what you mean by "move your mouse over" -- how do you use a mouse with an iPhone? :) Mobile doesn't have the concept of hover-over actions, so I'm not sure how we can implement what you're asking for.

Sorry. I meant if you push on it with your finger.

But something has changed now I see anyway. It used to be that there would appear a dotted red line above the word and you could push on it with your finger and a pop up window would come - just like the one that comes on a regular PC computer with a mouse. Now it doesn't anymore....
