Add plural (.stringsdict) support to AppleFFS for iOS/Mac OS X translation files
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

iOS 7 and OS X 10.9 introduce a plural-handling mechanism to localizable strings: this is buried in Foundation release notes for 10.9: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/releasenotes/Foundation/RN-Foundation/index.html

This *should* be able to map to something resembling either the MediaWiki-style or ruby-i18n-style plurals already in use on TWN, but need to think about best way to handle it.

There's also some gender-handling mechanism but it's even more poorly documented (unless there's more docs that I haven't found yet!)

We'll need this for the iOS Wikipedia app, so I'll try to whip something together, but we likely won't have it done for the first release.

Is this about the support in the app itself? Or in translatewiki? Or both?

For file format support in Translate.

There has been no change to AppleFFS in Translate, so there is no stringsdict support yet, so this isn't yet resolved.

I beleive this was resolved as part of resolving/blockers to T126493. Please reopen if additional support is needed, or I misunderstand the request.
