Image attribution should link to File: page
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

The image attribution should link to the File: page instead of the absolute upload.wikimedia.org URL. This ensures that full license/attribution information can be found, even when not exposed through the CommonsMetadata API. It also gives access to additional information such as previous versions of the same file.

Note that some files are stored on commons.wikimedia.org and some are uploaded locally to a specific project, so the file page URL will vary accordingly.

As already announced in Tech News, OfflineContentGenerator (OCG) will not be used anymore after October 1st, 2017 on Wikimedia sites. OCG will be replaced by Electron. You can read more on mediawiki.org.

Declining this task as OCG has been dead for years and superseded by Proton and Electron-PDFs on Wikimedia servers. (The latter behaves like the HTML version in the browser when it comes to the license at the bottom and linking all media elements to their File: page; if someone would like to change that, then please file a new ticket against the current infrastructure.)
