On article creation in mainspace, please alert editors about existing articles in draft namespace
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Author: mail

Description:
Given the severe backlog of AfC submissions, please alert editors who are about to create an article in mainspace with a name that already exists in the draft namespace. Not all editors check for drafts before they start bashing keys.

Reasons: maximize editors' time, promote collaboration

Maybe also change the following. When a visitor is searching for a subject, either via the simple search form or by manually entering the /wiki/ URL, and there is no article in mainspace but a draft exists, Wikipedia's '404 page' could also clearly mention the draft.

Reasons: encourage contributions, promote collaboration

This would have to be done on-wiki, by changing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Newarticletext to include the appropriate warning.

It seems to have been proposed on the talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Newarticletext#Draft_Namespace
