Hi @Qgil, the group has been exploring the possibility of a track at one of several possible events. The next meeting is on Friday, 2015-02-06. Your questions are good ones to ask the group.

Any updates? MediaWiki releases is now a main area of the Wikimedia Hackathon 2015, although as of today this is focusing more on WMF Release Engineering activities than MediaWiki for third parties. See T92565: Release/QA tasks at the Wikimedia Hackathon 2015

Markus, Cindy + some devs from MITRE,Siebrand as well as myself and anyone else who can come will be be interested. I don't think we're necessarily restricted to release activities though we would be interested, of course, in any plans there.

Perhaps a first step for this track would be meeting with the WMF release team at the hackahon?
