Performance histogram for MediaViewer and File page
Open, LowPublic

Description

Migrated from: https://wikimedia.mingle.thoughtworks.com/projects/multimedia/cards/815

Narrative

As a team member, I can see more clearly how many users experience slow load times, so that I can plan performance improvements more effectively.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Add a performance histogram of MediaViewer and the file page to the dashboard

The main problem with the current daily quantile plots seems to be that there was a huge change of volume around deployment, and there is no way to tell how that effects quantiles. I think we could get a better understanding by doing histograms of MV and pre- and post-deployment filepage performance. That is, have a chart where the X axis holds speed buckets (100-200ms, 200-300ms etc) and the Y axis holds user counts.

We already have all the required data via DurationLogger and NavigationTiming so we only have to write the SQL queries and the dashboard code.
