Description

In the last day or so opensearch queries to api.php no longer return a Description field. A number of mobile wikipedia clients rely on this field.

  1. Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=opensearch&search=Te&format=xmlfm
  2. Note that the query result does not have a description included

The TextExtracts extension (with $wgExtractsExtendOpenSearchXml configured to true) is now required for ApiOpenSearch to return a description field.

That extension is already present on WMF wikis, we just need to enable the config variable.
