m.{project}.org portal/redirect consistency
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I'd expect this to redirect to English wikivoyage just like http://m.wikipedia.org does for Wikipedia.

Current situation:
m.wikipedia.org - redirect to en.m
m.wikisource.org - mobile verson of old multilingual Wikisource, serving as a portal
m.wiktionary.org - nothing
m.wikinews.org - nilch
m.wikiversity.org - nada
m.wikibooks.org - не працює

Should we standardize?

I think m.wikipedia.org to enwp redirect is silly.. All these should redirect to the portal of each project. But a better alternative would be to create mobile friendly portals.

So, stuff to do:

m.wikipedia.org - change to (mobile) portal like wikipedia.org (instead of redirecting to en)
m.wikisource.org - leave as is
m.wiktionary.org - show portal like wiktionary.org
m.wikinews.org - show portal like wikinews.org
m.wikiversity.org - redirect to beta.m.wikiversity.org, like oldwikisource?
m.wikibooks.org - wikibooks.org redirects to en, so redirect to en.m.wikibooks.org (maybe later in a separate task, remove redirect and replace with portal - but that should happen on both desktop and mobile)
m.wikivoyage.org - show portal like wikivoyage.org

Sound good @Glaisher?

Krenair renamed this task from http://m.wikivoyage.org/ says this page not available to m.{project}.org portal/redirect consistency and i18n issues.Dec 29 2014, 6:37 PM

I think m.wikipedia.org to enwp redirect is silly..

which is T69015: m.wikipedia.org and zero.wikipedia.org should redirect differently

But a better alternative would be to create mobile friendly portals.

It looks like these portals do have mobile friendly versions already. It appears differently when viewed on a mobile.

Sound good @Glaisher?

Yeah, this makes sense except for wikibooks.org. We should probably keep it as it is for now (and make it redirect to www.wikibooks.org in a separate task).

m.wikiversity.org - redirect to beta.m.wikiversity.org, like oldwikisource?

DNS set up now. Thanks!

Looks like missing.php is doing the redirects for those domains to incubator now. Do we now make missing.php handle these m domains now?

scratch that, missing.php is for missing wikis, not mobile sites. need an apache config for this.

Yay, thanks! So all m.project.orgs are now an alias for www.project.org, except m.wikipedia.org. There is a separate task for m.wikipedia.org (T69015).

All plain m-dot sub domains under WMF projects now redirect to their www equivalents, including m.wikipedia.org to www.wikipedia.org.
