That's currently 2562 tickets and will trigger quite some notification spam (plus T76152 will bite us). Similar to 76942 I wonder whether this could be done in a scheduled downtime when temporarily switching mailservers off (chase might know)

The plan would be to do it on the mysql level, which should get around the issues mentioned above, afaict.
