Displaying two-letters followed by a colon in article title creates interwiki link, collides with Gorontalo language
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

In Indonesian Wiktionary, we encountered a problem where an Indonesian language called Gorontalo have a unique way of writing long vowel, which is using a colon (akin to Mohawk language, according to my research). For example, in Gorontalo dictionary, we could find entry such as:
*aa:bita - (the first 'a' is short, the second 'a' is long)
*aa:panga
*aa:limu
*aa:pola
*mo:ngayibuwa
*mo:nga:datiya
etc.

The problem is, if I link them, they will be treated as special interwiki link ([[aa:bita]] would link to aa.wiktionary.org). Changing the colons to HTML : still doesn't solve the linking problem. Is there any way to display (and link) those lemmas without having to modify the dictionary entry to follow the technical limitation of MW?

See example: https://id.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Wiktionary:Indeks_bahasa_Gorontalo/a&oldid=737692

  • [[aa:panga]] should show up between 2. [[aa]] and 3. [[aato]]
  • interwikis in that page are wrong, those should be valid lemmas.

In Mohawk language, for example, if we were to link the words in the example below:

  • [[Ko:r]] [[ióntiats]] - My name is Paul

it would have the same problem as described above ([[ko:r]] would become an interwiki to Korean Wiktionary)

I believe these languages follows example from IPA's symbols.

Upon reseraching more towards the subject of long vowels, I found out that the sign that looked like a colon was not actually a colon (:) but another unicode symbol (ː), and replacing colon by that symbol would solve the problem that we're having. So I'll close this task.
