Upgrade eqiad LVS to 10G
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

codfw's, ulsfo's & esams' LVSes are all 10G nowadays.

eqiad is lagging behind and this should probably be amended at some point. We're still okay traffic-wise but we should be really be better set up for more traffic.

Each LVS system has 4 connections (one per row), so I've created https://rt.wikimedia.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=9271 for the quote request to add this to lvs1001-1006.

I'll note the warranty on lvs1001-1006 expired on 2014-07-27. However, LVS systems kind of sit and just work, and haven't had hardware issues. As such, my initial request is simply to add the 10G nic(s) to these.

Discussion on RT ticket & price of upgrade to old, out of warranty systems is not worth it. These are critical, and instead we'll look at quotes to replace them outright.

The new LVS systems we use replace the 1G copper NICs with 10G fiber.

@faidon or @mark: Do I need to support both 1G copper and 10G fiber on the new eqiad lvs systems? If so, we'll have to modify the specification. If not, our codfw lvs spec will work.

@faidon answered via irc discussion, just go with 10G/1G fiber ports only.

I received the LVS servers. I am assuming these are going to be split across 3 10G rows (A,C,D). Please advise

I've created T104458 for the racking and setup locations. I'm resolving this task, as it is the hardware request, and the systems have arrived.
