The date of a Flow post should link to the post link (permalink)
Open, MediumPublic

Description

Currently, clicking the date of a Flow post shows the post history. To go to the page dedicated to the post, the user must go to the ellipsis menu and click "permalink".

In Twitter and Facebook, and in many blogs around the web the date links to the post. (Twitter and LiveJournal do it using the title, but that's not great - it may be useful to highlight and copy the title, which is hard to do when it's a link.)

A link to the history should appear in the ellipsis menu.

(The above is based on my intuition. Maybe analytics will show otherwise.)

we need to consider this use case more, we also want to ensure the history is easily accessible for cases where a post has been edited and you want to see the history of edits.

Amir, I agree that there should be an easier way to get to the Topic page. I'd rather have that be a link from the topic title, so I put in a ticket at T89783.

As Erik said, the rationale for linking the timestamp to the history page is to investigate when someone's made an edit. That's reinforced in the design by having the timeago turn into a UTC timestamp on hover, which implies a connection to the history.

To be clear, there is no page dedicated to posts. That's why I edited the title. There are pages dedicated to topics (in the Topic namespace). Topic permalinks go there, as you'd expect. Post permalinks also go to the Topic page, but have a anchor (#something) and topic_showPostId parameter, specifying the individual post.

He brought up one potential issue with that in the report. I commented at T89783: Make topic title a link to the Topic page.

As Erik said, the rationale for linking the timestamp to the history page is to investigate when someone's made an edit.

However, that could be done by clicking Edited (if it is edited at all), which is how it works on Facebook. Most posts are probably never going to be edited, whereas people may want quicker/more intuitive access to permalinks for various reasons (linking from the wiki, mailing lists, IRC, Phabricator).

Also, if the topic title is a link, that only gets you a permalink for the topic, not for individual posts.

Normal priority -- we'll talk about this with T89783.

Is this also the task for requesting that the timestamp of a topic should link to the topic page, or should that be a separate task? If I understand correctly, this task as currently phrased is about the timestamps of individual posts within a topic.
