Transliteration Tool on Wiki in Punjabi need improvement
Open, MediumPublic

Description

The transliteration tool in Punjabi needs some improvement.

  1. Every character has a halant (ਸ੍) instead of (ਸ) with it, so we have to type "a" after every character. This increases the no. of keystrokes. We need some other method for typing the conjuncts.
  1. Punjabi has only a few conjuncts, so instead of a halant with every character, we need some other method to type the conjunct character. Only three consonants are used as conjuncts; ਹ੍ as in ਨ੍ਹ = ਨ+ਹ੍; half rara - ਰ੍ as in ਪ੍ਰ = ਪ+ਰ੍; and half vava - ਵ੍ as in ਸ੍ਵ = ਸ+ਵ੍. Read more here https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Punjabi/Gurmukhi/Conjuncts
  1. ``The default numerals should be 1,2,3 instead of ੧,੨,੩. We have a gadget if anyone wants to see the Gurmukhi numerals.~~
  1. If possible, add a method to type full stop(.) in this method.

Task 3 of description is not needed and should not be done, this will eliminate Gurmukhi digits from keyboard which are very much needed to type Gurmukhi digits in a punjabi Gurmukhi keyboard as per international Unicode Gurmukhi chart , refer my comments at T102455 and agreement of @satdeep_gill thereof in his comments.

This task has been assigned to the same task owner for more than two years. Resetting task assignee due to inactivity, to decrease task cookie-licking and to get a slightly more realistic overview of plans. Please feel free to assign this task to yourself again if you still realistically work or plan to work on this task - it would be welcome!

(For the records, two emails were sent to assignee addresses before resetting assignees. See T228575 for more info and for potential feedback. Thanks!)

Is there anything we can do to get this issue fixed or bump its priority up?
