We are having to work around an issue where under unknown circumstances some extracts are served inside a php array rather than as a string. What's going on here?

@Jdlrobson can we close this as it seemed to be an issue in Gather? Or is it still an open question that should be pursued?

I've downgraded this to Low for now.

I think this got fixed by the introduction of formatversion. I expect @Anomie can confirm.

It doesn't look like it at first glance; the code here looks suspect.
