a link back from Echo notifications to a Flow topic shows gibberish topic id on mobile
Open, NormalPublic

Description

  1. On mobile web, go to a topic.
  2. Tap the bell to see Echo notifications.

At the top there will be a link back to the topic. The link includes the gibberish topic id. It's better to shoe something more human.

See screenshot - it's in Hebrew, but should be clear enough.

OK, so I played with it a bit more, and it's quite odd. I definitely saw this - see the screenshot; but I cannot reproduce it.

And what message? The closest that I can find is returnto from core, but I cannot find it in Echo. Another message that could be related is mobile-frontend-talk-back-to-page, but it has quotes around the page name, which do not appear in the screenshot.

Any ideas, Echo, Flow and MobileFrontend developers?..

I somehow managed to see it again on my phone when, added uselang=qqx to the URL and saw that it's indeed returnto.

At the top there will be a link back to the board.

Do you mean "a link back to the topic"? It sounds like this may be a general returnto link provided by MobileFrontend. If so, we probably need to hook into that.

Indeed, topic.

This seems to be an issue in Special:Notifications I suspect a hook is running there. Currently there is a mobile version of notifications due to the desktop notifications page not being mobile friendly, it would be great if Echo's special page was updated and we could exclusively use that and remove that code in MobileFrontend.

The mobile version of notifications is essentially a modal (or mobile's version of that) IIRC. On desktop, Special:Notifications is not the primary way to use notifications; the flyout is.

The screenshot is not the modal it's the Special page (search bar can be seen at top of page)

Many users will hit this page due to slow connections so it's more important on mobile.
I think you'll find the bug is in http://en.m.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:Notifications or http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:Notifications (the mobile version makes some slight tweaks to the page). I suspect the hook is unexpectedly running but not being stripped from the output in some way.
