Description

(In the context of T94165: Engineering Community quarterly review January - March 2015, WMF is changing its quarterly review process, and this is a goal task created basically after the fact in order to accommodate to the new process.)

The following text is extracted from the last quarterly review, and eventually fine tuned:

Expected impact: MediaWiki 3rd party agenda contributing to Wikimedia's plans

Success measures:

  • The group grows and registers regular activity.
  • They maintain a wishlist of MediaWiki features interesting for third parties.
  • Their requests to the Foundation are documented.
  • They benefit from the Wikimedia infrastructure, activities, and support.
  • They investigate alternative sources to develop MediaWiki features.

After some conversations with @Mglaser and @MarkAHershberger, and also after participating in T86563: MediaWiki Developer Summit 2015 panel proposal: MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group Meet-Up, it was clear that it didn't make sense to pursue this goal as formulated. Basically, I had drafted these objectives with the best of my intentions, trying to draw a continuation of the work done by M&M in the context of Wiki-Release-Team. However, this was not necessarily what the MediaWiki Stakeholders Group needed, and even less asked explicitly.

For these reasons, at the MediaWiki Developer Summit we agreed that the MSG would as to the Wikimedia Foundation anything they need, having @greg / Release-Engineering-Team for MediaWiki release topics, and me / #Engineering-Community for community topics.

The resolution that comes closer to these events is Invalid. Next time I must ask the group first, and just then elaborate goals if needed.
