If an external link contains a period, VisualEditor displays two links

Description

Steps to reproduce, observed on dewiki (Win7, Chrome v41):

  1. Edit a page in VisualEditor.
  2. Add a simple reference ("Einzelnachweis - Einfach").
  3. In the resulting dialogue, enter the text "The impact of unconventional monetary policy on the Italian economy during the sovereign debt crisis. Questioni di Economia e Finanza"
  4. Select the entire text.
  5. Click on the link symbol and add a link to http://www.bancaditalia.it/pubblicazioni/qef/2013-0203/QEF_203.pdf?language_id=1
  6. Save the reference.

Notice that what should be one link is in fact displayed as two links, separated by the period, as shown in the screenshot below:

Can you give a saved example on a wiki that shows this? I can't reproduce.
