core dumps generation on CI slaves have been enabled during summer 2014 to grab HHVM segfault informations. That is not much used nowadays and at worth beta cluster generate them.
The core are are written to /var which tends to fill up the disk. dvipng started throwing some T94273
We should disable core generation. There is an ulimit call in one of the integration/jenkins.git shell script

Closing again. The core dumps are actually quite useful and they are automatically garbage collected by Puppet.
