Fixed footers on diff and other page obscure site footer
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I am on Wikipedia with Safari on iOS 7 on an iPad.
I get the mobile diff page: https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spécial:MobileDiff/56784050
This page is incomplete. It does not show any of the two versions of the article. It does not give any link to view them.
Usually, this is not a problem, because the mobile page has a Desktop link at the end, which gives the full page.
But, here, the link Desktop is missing.

Please place in the mobile diff page the link Desktop to the full diff page.

Thank you.

So I think what this is requesting is a desktop link in the mobile diff page. This is not a bug. From what I remember, a fixed footer was deemed more important for editors since the majority of users of this page would be doing patrolling and we optimised for those users rather than users that want to switch to desktop/mobile.

The footer is there just obscured.

A couple of solutions:

  • Some sites put the desktop link in the left menu to solve this issue.
  • We could make the fixed footer collapsible

Maybe the design team would like to reconsider the design so the desktop link is available on all pages even those with a fixed footer. (ping @KHammerstein).

@Jdlrobson Yes I agree the desktop link should be available on all pages even those with a fixed footer.
I'm not sure of the original design decisions. I think the simplest way is to just show the normal site footer below the diff content. The fixed footer can remain the same.

A fixed footer is fixed to the bottom of the page at all times... So they can't remain the same :)

Either the diff footer doesn't become fixed or it becomes collapsible... I'm not sure if there are other options..

Jdlrobson claimed this task.

The footer is no longer obscured.
